Police in California released video of a chase that ended with a suspect grabbing a moving car in what appeared to be a carjacking attempt and then being shot.

Video released by the Lathrop Police Department on Saturday shows suspect Juan Valdez, 40, calling 911 on Jan. 27 after a woman called 911 to report that her friend was being threatened. Juan Valdez was hunted.

Video shows officers responding to the 200 block of Shadywood Avenue, where they encountered two distraught women arguing with a man they called “John.”

As police attempted to speak to the suspect, a woman could be heard saying: “He’s going to fight back. Be careful.”

After the suspect returned home, police initially received a call in which one of the alleged victims said, “John, you’re trying to kill me.” One officer pointed a weapon at the suspect and another officer asked him to turn off his car. The suspect then drove away in his vehicle.

Valdez clings to car during chase

A wild chase ensued, with Valdez running into the wrong way of traffic before the race. one of the officials Attempts to stop him were unsuccessful. The pursuit began when the suspect entered Interstate 5. Shortly after, one of the Versa’s tires burst.

Valdez can be seen jumping out of the car and grabbing the door of the other vehicle, which he holds on to as the driver continues driving.

“He was trying to carjack someone,” one officer said.

As police catch up to them, the other driver eventually pulls over and Valdez can be seen trying to run away.

Police warned the suspect to stop or be shot, before an officer fired twice and Valdez fell to the ground.

“Ah, brother, why did you hit me?” he asked.

Valdez then identified himself to the officer who was providing first aid while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive.

Valdez was taken to a hospital, later released and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail.he was charged with multiple felonies, Includes carjacking, false imprisonment, fleeing, resisting arrest, and committing a felony while on release/parole from a prior felony.

Online booking records show no bail is allowed in his case and he is expected to appear in court again on April 10.
