Dubai Vice President says project ‘aims to speed up, simplify and streamline’ residency and employment processes

Passengers gather! If you are looking to move to or work in Dubai, then we have good news for you as the authorities in the United Arab Emirates have reduced the processing time and number of documents required for residence visas and work documents.

Previously, it took 30 days to onboard a new employee, but under the new instructions, it can now be completed in just five days and requires only five documents instead of 16.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, announced the plan on Wednesday as part of a new efficiency drive of “zero bureaucracy”, Nationwide the report said.

Launching the Employment Package for the first time, Sheikh Mohammed said the project “aims to speed up, simplify and streamline” the residency and employment process.

The new program provides services such as “issuance of work and residence permits for new employees, renewal of residence permits, health tests for residence visas, cancellation of work permits and fingerprint scanning of Emirates ID cards.”

The platform will operate entirely online, but medical exams and fingerprint scans will still be conducted in person.

The program is part of the Dubai Investment Platform, which will serve more than 275,000 companies in Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the plan “will save 62 million working days”.

“The project is expected to eliminate 25 million procedures per year, resulting in significant savings for government and the private sector.”

The new platform will soon be available to companies in other emirates.

Entities collaborating on the platform include Dubai Health Ministry, Ministry of Human Resources and UAE, Dubai Economy and Tourism Authority, Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, and Dubai General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

The move also eliminates the need for new employees to visit each department individually, either in person or online, as was the previous process.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri, General Manager of GDRFA-Dubai, said that after the launch of the new platform, the service transaction volume is expected to increase by 25% this year.
