Israel launches terrorist attack on Iranian consulate in Damascus

According to reports, Israel launched a terrorist attack on the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, killing many people, including a senior Revolutionary Guards commander.

Syria’s official news agency SANA said the attack was carried out by “Israeli enemies” on Monday afternoon and targeted the consular office of the Iranian embassy in the Meze neighborhood of Damascus.

The Syrian News Agency quoted a military source as saying: “At around 0:17 this afternoon, the Israeli enemy launched an air strike from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus.”

“Our air defense media responded to the missiles of the invasion and shot down some of them. The aggression resulted in the destruction of the entire building, martyred and injured everyone inside, and work is currently underway to salvage the bodies.”

The news agency also reported that Israeli aggression also caused significant damage to “neighboring buildings.”

Iran’s ambassador to Damascus, Hussein Akbari, confirmed reports of an Israeli attack and said the regime targeted the consulate building with six missiles.

Akbari said five to seven people were killed in the Israeli aggression, including several Iranian advisers inside the building. Two police officers were also killed in the attack.

“We will respond decisively to this action,” he said. “This regime does not respect international law,” the ambassador added. “We will support countries that resist [of Palestine] Don’t worry about the criminality of this regime. “

Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force, and his deputy Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi were killed in the Israeli attack.

Meanwhile, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited the Iranian embassy following the missile attack.

Mekdad condemned Israel’s aggression, saying “the Israeli occupying entity will not be able to influence relations between Iran and Syria.”
