Israeli troops withdraw from Shifa hospital in Gaza

Gaza’s Palestinian Health Ministry said the Israeli military had withdrawn tanks and vehicles from the besieged area, days after launching a major operation against al-Shifa, the main hospital in the area.

The ministry said dozens of bodies were found in the complex, and a reporter and witnesses saw tanks and vehicles rolling out.

Witnesses said the area around the complex was hit by dozens of airstrikes and artillery shells.

The Gaza government media office said Israeli airstrikes provided cover for the withdrawing vehicles.

Moss Karout reported from the northern Gaza city of Jabaliya that Gaza civil defense and medical authorities were heading to Shifa hospital for recovery surgery following the Israeli withdrawal.

Karout said there was “confirmed information” that the complex’s buildings and medical equipment in the hospital were “completely destroyed.”

Bodies were scattered on the streets near the hospital, he added.

At one point, 107 patients were trapped in the Human Resources Development building, which “was not at all prepared for medical care.”

Adele Cordell, UNICEF’s regional director for the Middle East, said Gaza was not only a humanitarian crisis but also a “moral” crisis.

“This is a test of our humanity and our ability to save children’s lives,” she said on X, adding that it “will have consequences for the future”.
