In a fiery 68-minute State of the Union address on Thursday, U.S. President Joe Biden accused Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump of threatening democracy and submitting to Russia. Reuters the report said.

Biden took multiple digs at Trump, referring to him as “my predecessor” without naming him.

He lambasted the former president for encouraging Russia to do whatever it wanted.

“Now my predecessor, a former Republican president, is telling Putin, ‘Do what you want to do,'” he said.

“I think it’s outrageous, dangerous and unacceptable.”

Additionally, he accused Trump of orchestrating the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill. “My predecessor and some of you tried to cover up the truth on January 6th. I will not do that; you can’t love your country only when you win.”

The speech gave Biden, who has low approval ratings, a chance to speak directly to millions of U.S. television viewers about his vision for the next four years in office.

He used the opportunity to contrast himself with Trump on abortion rights and the economy, and took a number of jibes at House Republicans with off-the-cuff jokes that appeared to ease concerns about his age and mental acuity.

Trump responded on his “Truth Social” platform: “He said I bowed to the Russian leader. He gave them everything, including Ukraine.”
