Joe Biden urges US to stand up to ‘thug’ Vladimir Putin

U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “thug” while speaking at a Friends of Ireland lunch on Capitol Hill hosted by Speaker Mike Johnson ahead of St. Patrick’s Day.

Biden stressed that the United States must bow to no one and stand up to Russian leaders as “history is witnessing” the conflict in Ukraine that has claimed thousands of lives around the world. Mirror the report said.

“I am committed to continuing to do my part,” Biden said. “I believe the vast majority of members of Congress are willing to do their part and continue to urge everyone here to stand up to Vladimir. Putin. Thug.”

The 81-year-old Democratic presidential candidate’s comments come as he pressures Congress to pass a Senate-approved $95 billion foreign military aid bill that includes military aid to Ukraine and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Speaking at the event, Biden added: “We need them very, very badly and this sends a clear message: America stands up for freedom and we bow to anyone in the world.”

He continued: “I think we are at a turning point, not just in American history but in world history. The decisions we make now will determine what the next 3-4-5-6 decades will look like.

“I believe history is watching. History is watching today. Let’s work through the issues moving forward with each other and with all those who struggle with all those who seek a better future like our ancestors did.”
