American voters are increasingly supportive of policies aimed at addressing the ongoing illegal immigration crisis at the border.

The Associated Press, in partnership with the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center, polled U.S. voters on key policy proposals Curb illegal border crossings.

Increasing the number of Border Patrol agents is by far the most popular policy recommendation. The poll shows about 79% of Republicans, 54% of Democrats and 56% of independents support it.

About 53% of respondents said they wanted to “reduce the number of immigrants who are allowed to seek asylum in the United States when they arrive at the U.S. border.”

Only 24% disagreed with this view, with another 23% neither agreeing nor disagreeing.

The AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll was conducted March 21-25 and surveyed 1,282 adults.

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.8%.
