Tech giant Microsoft revealed on Friday that Russian state-backed hacking group Midnight Blizzard is trying to compromise its systems again. Reuters the report said.

Hackers are trying to exploit data stolen from the tech giant’s corporate emails in January 2024.

The event underscored the group’s special focus on penetrating Microsoft, a major software designer and key provider of digital assistance to the U.S. government.

The hacking group, also known as Nobelium, appears to be using previously stolen data to continue its attempts to compromise Microsoft’s systems, including source code repositories and internal systems.

Microsoft highlighted the aggressive nature of Midnight Blizzard, noting that the use of “password spray” has increased tenfold since the January attack.

Although Microsoft disclosed this in January, the Russian Embassy in Washington has not yet responded to the recent statement or commented on previous reports of Microsoft’s Midnight Blizzard move.

Microsoft stressed that it is committed to helping affected customers, which suggests that hackers are using the information obtained to identify areas that may be vulnerable to future attacks.

The company emphasized that there is no evidence that its customer-facing systems were compromised, reassuring the public about the security of these platforms.

This ongoing campaign against Microsoft reflects a significant commitment of resources, coordination, and focus by threat actors and signals an ongoing and significant cybersecurity threat.
