Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has raised “approximately $240,000” for the family of fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller and vowed to make more donations.
Diller, 31, shot A routine traffic stop in Queens turned into a shootout with a suspect Monday night. Officer Diller leaves behind a young widow, Stephanie, and a one-year-old son. In the video, Portnoy said Barstool Sports is selling NYPD merchandise on its store page and that he and the company have raised additional donations to support the family.
“Well, I’m sure everyone has seen this story,” Portnoy said in a video posted on his X and TikTok accounts. “Tragedy. New York City Police, Jonathan Diller, who was murdered. Routine traffic stop, pulled over two guys, a million seniors, in and out of jail a million times, and they basically shot him. “
“Tragic. Left behind his wife, a one-year-old child. We sold T-shirts. We raised about $240,000 directly for the family. Every penny we made goes to the family,” he continued said. “The bottom line is, whatever we sell, whatever we produce at the end of the day or at midnight, I’m going to match it so that whatever we can produce is doubled.”
“I know money isn’t going to solve this problem,” Portnoy added. “There’s nothing that can cure this, but it’s the least we can do, Barstool, myself, we have a long history of supporting police, supporting the boys in blue, supporting first responders. You know, this is tragic. These people Go out and have an adventure. Their lives. It’s terrible, so we’re going to do whatever we can to support it.”

Police arrested 34-year-old Guy Rivera, a suspect in the police shooting. He had been arrested more than 20 times before for drugs and violent crimes.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference that Diller and his partner spotted a vehicle illegally parked at a bus stop in Far Rockaway, Queens, around 5:45 pm on Monday and A traffic stop was conducted.

As they approached the vehicle, they found Rivera sitting in the passenger seat and asked him to exit the vehicle. He refused and allegedly fired at police.
The bullet missed Diller’s bulletproof vest and struck him in the torso. Police returned fire and Rivera was struck. He remains in hospital receiving treatment.

The driver of the car, 41-year-old Lindy Jones, who also has a lengthy criminal record, was also arrested.
