Dubai: Residents of Dubai were today asked to stay at home and work and study remotely as severe weather in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) saw heavy rain in cities across the Gulf state.

The development comes as the emirate of Dubai grapples with severe weather challenges in the metropolis in line with directives issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

The Crown Prince has ordered all government entities and private schools in Dubai to observe Tuesday as a remote working day, as the government aims to ensure the safety of its employees and citizens amid potentially severe weather conditions.

Schools across the country will be closed on Tuesday with students taking online classes from home as thunderstorms and heavy downpours are expected across the UAE. Government employees in other emirates are also expected to work remotely.

Residents are advised to exercise caution during the dangerous weather, with wind speeds of up to 70km/h expected until Wednesday, while motorists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel.

Authorities are also calling on private businesses to consider providing remote working arrangements for employees and ensuring their safety during weather fluctuations.

In addition, private schools in Dubai will conduct distance learning courses in accordance with the directives of Sheikh Hamdan.

“All Dubai government entities and private schools will work remotely on Tuesday, April 16,” the Crown Prince of Dubai said, stressing the importance of taking proactive measures to safeguard public health and safety.
